Saturday Demonstration at "American Women's Services of Erie" Abortion Facility

DEMONSTRATION ON SATURDAY

There will be a demonstration tomorrow, Saturday, March 15, from 1:30 PM until 2:30 PM at the Professional Building, 1611 Peach Street, the site of Erie's pending abortion facility. The demonstrators will assemble on the State Street side of the Professional Building.

This will be People for Life's 363rd demonstration at the Professional Building in response to plans for an abortion facility. The demonstrations began on October 29, 1999.

Abortionist Steven Brigham, this past December, resubmitted a request to the Pennsylvania Department of Health for approval to carry out abortions in Erie.

Preparations to open the abortion facility have been proceeding at a fever pitch for approximately four weeks. Photographs of some of the activity are currently posted on People for Life's web site, www.peopleforlife.org.

We remain very hopeful that Brigham will not be able to secure a transfer agreement from any of the Erie hospitals. This would-or should-effectively end Brigham's attempted move into Erie. The Pennsylvania Department of Health does not grant permission to carry out abortions unless the facility seeking permission has secured a transfer agreement.

A valid transfer agreement can only be provided by a hospital that offers full Emergency Room services. The hospital must be no farther away than 30 minutes by ambulance. Thus, the outcome of our three-year-plus struggle to protect Erie's innocent unborn children might ultimately be determined by Hamot Health Foundation, Metro Health Center, Millcreek Community Hospital, or St. Vincent Health System.

Planned Parenthood of the Susquehanna Valley attempted to open an abortion facility in Lancaster, Pennsylvania between 1999 and 2001. That attempt was blocked when all five hospitals in Lancaster County refused to provide a transfer agreement. (Documentation is available from People for Life.)
