Garnett Biviano Pro-Life Essay Contest
FALL 1997
Purpose
The Pro-Life Essay Contest is designed to motivate junior and senior
high school students to examine the issues of abortion, infanticide and
euthanasia and write well-researched, original, persuasive essays
presenting the pro-life viewpoint.
This contest, conducted by the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation
Educational Fund, is now open for entries from all Pennsylvania students
in 7th to 12th grade.
Eligibility
Entrants must be residents of Pennsylvania and enrolled in the
appropriate grade for the 1997-98 school year. Entries must be original
essays that have not been previously published or received awards in
other contests.
Contest Levels/Word Counts
Junior High Level--7th-9th grade: Essay length 400-700 words.
Senior High Level--10th-12th grade: Essay length 600-900 words.
Format
Entries must be typewritten and double-spaced. Entries must include
a cover page containing the entrants name, parents names, home
address, telephone number, age, grade level, name of school in which the
student is enrolled and number of words. The entrants name or other
identifying information cannot appear elsewhere in the essay.
Timeline
Entries must be postmarked no later than Saturday, December 13,
1997. Entries by fax or email will not be accepted.
Awards
The PPLF Educational Fund will award first, second and third place
prizes at both contest levels. Authors of first place essays will win $100;
second place, $75; and third place, $50. When appropriate, the judges will
award honorable mention certificates. There is no competition beyond the
state level.
Winning authors will be contacted personally and contest results will
be announced in the first issue of LifeLines, 1998.
